Cork is gained from the bark of a special tree: the cork oak tree. It grows particularly well in warmer areas which is why in Europe, they are most commonly found around the Mediterranean Sea. The SET HERO cork fabric is produced in Italy and Portugal. The bark is carefully removed from the tree and then processed on site into cork leather and other products.
The oak trees do not suffer from the loss of their bark – on the contrary: the removal actually benefits the health and growth of the tree as it renews its bark. Due to that property and after a certain period of time, the bark can be gathered again from the same tree. This makes cork fabric a naturally renewable source.
Because of its properties, cork fabric is often considered a vegan leather. It is manufactured without animal components and from almost 100% natural ingredients. Almost? The back of the fabric is coated with a cotton and polyester mix so that it is even more durable and becomes even less porous. Cork is water resistant! This property along with the additional layer makes the cork fabric wipe-clean and water will just roll off its surface.
Therefore: no worries if your set bag catches bit of patina or rain!
Furthermore, the surface of the fabric also resembles that of leather: in contrast to how you may be familiar with cork in a classic pin board, the surface of the SET HERO fabrics only has a bit of structure and feels very smooth. After all, costume lovers need to have things that don’t only look beautiful, but also feel nice in our hands, right?
